The Plzeňáček Children';s Folklore Ensemble was founded in 1996 at the Bedřich Smetana Basic Art School in Pilsen. Currently, Plzeňáček has around twenty singers and musicians between the ages of 3 and 19. Folk songs (mainly from southwestern Bohemia) are edited by former members Vojtěch Frank and Ondřej Hrách. The ensemble has already visited a number of countries, filmed at Czech Radio Plzeň and Czech Television in Prague. Plzeňáček won various awards at competitions and in 2010 he was awarded the Angel of the Year award by the mayor of the city of Pilsen for helping the needy. The ensemble constantly cooperates with the choirs of the ZUŠ Bedřich Smetana and with the Zoological and Botanical Garden of the City of Pilsen.

The festival is a regular member of the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts CIOFF.
