Children's Folk Ensemble Mladinka was founded in 1986 under the name Škodováček. A year later, its own children's folk music group was established. The ensemble trains dancers and musicians for the adult ensemble Mladina (formerly Škoda Plzeň). The ensemble consists of around 70 children, divided into two groups based on age – the older Mladinky and the younger Mladinečky.
The goal of the ensemble is to introduce children to the roots of our culture and bring folk art to the contemporary audience in a partially stylized form. We focus primarily on stage adaptations of folk songs, dances, and customs from the Plzeň region and southwestern Bohemia.
Mladinka regularly participates in major folk festivals in the Czech Republic (MFF Plzeň, Strážnice, Kunovské léto, Pardubice) and abroad (Germany – 1994, Turkey – 1996, USA – 1998, 2004, Hungary – 2006, 2015, Slovakia – 2011, Macedonia – 2018). The ensemble organizes Christmas performances, exchange programs with groups from both Bohemia and Moravia, and summer camps.
Among Mladinka’s achievements are its participation in national rounds of the Children's Folk Ensembles Festival in Kroměříž and Jihlava in 1989, 1992, and 2013.
