Dance Academy of Mexico
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
Festival years: 2024
The Dance Academy of Mexico was founded in 2010 in Milwaukee (the largest city in the US state of Wisconsin) by Marina Croft with the aim of preserving and promoting Aztec and Mexican traditional dances in the USA. Aztec dance is a cultural phenomenon infused with the artistic, spiritual and military traditions of pre-Columbian Mexicans. It is a form of prayer, a way of life, a form of ancestor worship. Using vibrant colors on their clothing, headdresses and musical instruments, Aztec dancers communicate across generations and continue this tradition. The Dance Academy of Mexico has participated in many international festivals and is a member of the CIOFF organization.
