International Folklore Festival CIOFF® Pilsen
After a very long and careful consideration of all circumstances and after a consultation at the Regional Hygiene Station of the Pilsen Region, we are unfortunately forced to inform you that the upcoming 24th International Folklore Festival CIOFF PLZEŇ 2021 will not take place and move to next year (June 8-12). 2022).
Although the situation around the coronavirus pandemic seems to be better in our country and in the world too, the current conditions for organizing cultural events with singing and dancing are unfortunately still not such that we are able to prepare and implement a festival program at the appropriate level. The current state of folklore ensembles in the Czech Republic and abroad is also problematic, whose activities have unfortunately been completely stopped for several months and they are only slowly preparing for renewal.
We are very sorry, please keep your favor, we appreciate it very much. We wish you good health and we are really looking forward to see you at the festival in 2022! ❤️
The Pilsen International Folklore Festival CIOFF® has been the meeting place for lovers and admirers of folklore and folk art since 1997. Every year, around 20 adult and children folklore ensembles from all over the Czech Republic and abroad, including guests from overseas, participate in the festival.
The individual parts of the festival programme take place in the historical centre of the city (the scene "U Branky", Smetanovy Sady), one part of the programme takes place in the picturesque surrounding of the villages and towns in the vicinity of Pilsen. The aim of the festival is to present traditional folk dance and musical performances to as many people as possible. Festival spectators also have great opportunity to get familiar with new directions of folk music and dance which are always to a certain extent inspired by its traditional expression.
At present, the main organizer of the festival is the Pilsen Folk Scene in cooperation with the Jiskra Song and Dance Folklore Ensemble from Pilsen. The main partners of the festival are the city of Pilsen, the Pilsen Region, the 700 years of the City of Pilsen Foundation, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, and Hotel IBIS Pilsen. The main media partner of the festival is the Czech Radio Pilsen.
